About LazyJ

Howdy ;)

     So you wanna know stuff about me, eh?

     This ol'hermit ain't too big on social stuff, but I'll try to be cordial.

     Let's see now... I do love me some fresh French-press brewed coffee, donuts (any baked sweets will do), and I took a shine to Minetest some years back.

     Some time ago, back in the summer of 2012, during my random Internet wanderings, I came across some strange, free game called "Minetest".

     "What kind of video game has no time limit, no levels, no 'bosses' to kill, no score to keep track of, and does not require the reflexes of a hyper-active teenager??", I thought to myself.

     At the time, little did I know that Minetest would be my first introduction to the "cozy game" genre. A game genre that I'm appreciating more and more as I get older and slower.

     So I downloaded, installed, and then tried Minetest out — for many hours!

     A couple years went by and I found myself as an admin and server-op of LinuxGaming2.com's Minetest server, "LinuxGaming2". Miner_48er and I, along with the other admins and moderators, worked to cultivate LinuxGaming2 into a unique, stable, and long-term Minetest server.

     Back then I was unemployed so I had a lot of time to spend on taking care of my Minetest server and tinkering with custom mods. But, then I finally found a steady, stable, long-term, full-time job; which meant less time for Minetest — a lot less.

     Finally, in January of 2024, after 10 years running my Minetest server, "LinuxGaming2", I shut it down and walked away. The frustrations and burn-out had gotten to the point where I no longer wanted anything to do with Minetest.

     Over time, the urge to create and build things, slowly regrew and my Minetest burn-out eventually healed — though it did leave some scars.

     In late October, 2025, I decided to, tentatively, give Minetest another go.

     This time around, however, I'm going to keep to my singleplayer worlds and my blog. No more servers, no more IRC, and limited use of the Minetest forums, er... Luanti forums. (After 12 years of playing Minetest, the name change from "Minetest" to "Luanti" is going to take some time to get used too.)

     Ok, so who is "LazyJ"?

     As you can probably guess, "LazyJ Minetest" isn't my real name. Maybe when I'm more comfortable with this whole "social media" thing I'll post my real name.

     "LazyJ" is the name I am recognized by in the Luanti community.

     The last name of "Minetest"??

     Well, in order to have a Google account you have to enter a first and last name, so I chose "Minetest" since it was the most relevant, at the time. (Back then "Minetest" was the name of the game, er... engine,... or gaming platform is it now??).

     Like I hinted at earlier, I'm not entirely comfortable with social media but I will throw out a few, little, tidbits about my real self:

  • I live in the USA, currently in the home state of Starbuck's and Microsoft;
  • I enjoy coffee; so much so that I have two different types of moka pots, two sizes of French presses, and an Aeropress;
  • of course nothing goes better with coffee than donuts, cakes, cookies, and pie;
  • like the stereotypical American, I can only speak English;
  • Nixon was still in office when I was a kid;
  • and the hair on top of my head has left and relocated to my eyebrows and beard.
  • Yup, I'm an old-fart and if you know the US state and the time period I refer to above, without looking them up, then you too are probably a little crusty around the edges.   ;)

About My Blog, "LazyJ's Minetest World"

     My blog is a journal of my own journey in studying, learning, and improving my design skills, build skills, and over-all skills as an aspiring Luanti artisan. Along the way, perhaps others will be able to learn from what I've learned.

     This blog is primarily about progressing and learning how to create nice things in Luanti. Occasionally there will be posts about other, Luanti-related, stuff.

     My blog is not geared towards geeks myopically obsessed with code. My blog is for normies, like me, who, when it comes to creative endevors, appreciate craftsmanship and manual creation far more than calculus and proceedurally generated reproductions of someone else's work.

     This blog is not for the uncouth. All comments will have to be approved by me first.

     Censorship?

     You bet.

     Start your own blog if you don't like it.

Contact Info

     Sure. I could post an email address but then it would quickly fill with spam and I would stop paying any attention to it anymore. So that nixes that idea.

     Instead, let's try this:

     If you want to contact me, you can reach me through a PM (Private Message) on https://forum.luanti.org/index.php — Luanti's forums. I'd rather not use the comment section of this blog for contact purposes. I'd rather keep the comment section for comments about the particular post they are on.

Privacy Policy

     I've read it is recommended that blogs have a "privacy" policy or statement of some sort.

     Ok, here we go:

     As far as I'm concerned, your private matters are none of my business.

     If anyone is bundling-up data from cookies and the information you provide in comments, and selling it off to other parties, it's Blogger/Google/Alphabet, the NSA, and who knows how many other governments and their agencies.

     This blog and everything that goes on in it is, most likely, recorded by Blogger/Google/Alphabet's systems.

     Hey, this is Blogger/Google/Alphabet's blogging platform after all!

     So no matter what privacy policy I may have, it's all trumped by Blooger/Google/Alphabet's policies.
